Loyle Carner 2019
January has been anything but dry, the music scene has been popping off.
You know I'm a loyal Loyle Carner fan, I wait for the next release more eagerly than the last, and his first hit of 2019 has not disappointed. It's definitely one of those songs you play on repeat until you know it off by heart its way too jazzy to skip.
Loyle has collaborated with Rebel Kleff and Kiko Bun to create the hip-hop-rap mash, 'You Don't Know.' Effortlessly cool as ever Loyles mix of rap and spoken word poetry gels with the beat by Bun. Its so well produced and just shows that 2019 is gonna be a year of pure quality sounds, he's not releasing random tunes he's putting heart and soul into these works of art.
Man I didn't know it would be possible, but Loyle is cooler than ever in this track, each phrase seems effortless to him yet each line is so purposeful to the listener.
"Now I only make love when I'm in love"
Not only are the lyrics masterful but the music video is a piece of pure art- everything is so well thought out and the colors are so aesthetically pleasing- an absolute joy to behold.
Its very rare that I get properly into a music video, but this one was so clever. Loyle plays the part of a bartender, security officer, and cab driver as he spies on his mum's potential love interests. Shock twist, Benjamin Zephaniah shows his face as a potential suitor- it's nice to see his friendship with the renowned poet has remained strong- both influencing each other each year.
